The first-year* of the master’s degree program in « International and European Law » is a French national degree, taught in English, fully recognized in Europe and complying with the Bologna process. This one-year program equals 60 credits in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
The MIEL aims at giving students a thorough knowledge of the private and public aspects of international and European legal issues. The program offers a comparative perspective, focuses on methodology with a view to provide the students with the tools needed for them to hold positions as lawyers in an international and European context.

* In the French system, the master program is divided into two years : Master 1 (first-year of Master) and Master 2 (second-year of Master).

Conditions d'accès

  • A three-year degree in law is required, equivalent to 180 ECTS (European credits), i.e. Bachelor’s degree, Licence or equivalent. Other qualifications and area of study may be considered by the Pedagogic Committee.
  • Students must have an adequate command of the English language to enrol. An applicant's English proficiency level may be demonstrated by means of score reports of recognized exams, tests or certificates (equivalent to C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ) or by any relevant means (study experience in a program taught in English…).


  • All the candidates have to submit a paper application. This application form will be downloadable from this page from April 2nd, 2018.
    • Deadline of the sending : 14 May 2018 (as attested by postmark);
    • The decision from the pedagogic committee will be handed down from 23rd of May, 2018.
IMPORTANT. Non European Union applicants : according to your country of origin and/or residence, you may have to follow a specific process with an earlier deadline. Get in touch with the Campus France office in your country.

In case of admission, the registration will take place at the university in September.

  • International and European criminal law – 24hrs – 4 ECTS
  • Fundamental rights – 24hrs – 4 ECTS
  • Private international law – 24hrs – 5 ECTS
  • Introduction to legal system – 24hrs – 4 ECTS
  • Public international law – 24hrs – 5 ECTS

  • French or intensive English (for French speakers) – 12,5hrs – 3 ECTS

Non-assessed courses:
  • Conferences on legal cultures – 35hrs
  • Legal research – 3hrs
  • French and European culture and civilization – 15hrs

2nd Semester (January to May)
  • Contract law – 24hrs – 6 ECTS
  • Competition law – 24hrs – 6 ECTS
  • Module – 99hrs – 15 ECTS
    • Law and economics – 15hrs
    • International Trade Law – 15hrs
    • E-commerce – 9hrs
    • International Dispute Resolution – 15hrs
    • Company Law – 15hrs
    • Intellectual and Industrial Property law – 15hrs

  • French or intensive English (for French speakers) – 12,5hrs – 3 ECTS

Non-assessed courses:

Poursuites d'études

At the end of the diploma, students who pass the exams, acquire 60 ECTS credits and are especially entitled to apply for the second year of the Master’s degree in France. Moreover, the students interested by this perspective can continue their Master 2 Studies in Toulouse University.

In particular, the MIEL gives the opportunity to apply for the second year of one of the Master’s degree programs taught in English (or both in English or French) at Toulouse 1 Capitole University, in the following areas of study :

• Comparative International Law,
• International Business Law,
• International Economic Law,
• Private International Law.
