General presentation:

The Toulouse Research Institute in Information Technology (IRIT) is a Joint Research Unit (UMR 5505) from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (INPT), Paul Sabatier University (UPS, central establishment), Toulouse Jean Jaurès and Toulouse Capitole University.

Created in 1990, the Toulouse Research Institute of Information Technology (IRIT) has grown into one of the strongest research potentials in information technology with 800 people, 277 researchers and 211 PhD students.

The 21 research teams of the laboratory are organized around seven scientific topics covering all the current fields of information technology:

  • Topic  1: Information analysis and synthesis
  • Topic  2: Indexing and information search
  • Topic  3: Interaction, autonomy, dialogue and cooperation
  • Topic  4: Reasoning and decisions
  • Topic  5: Modelling, algorithms and high throughput computing
  • Topic  6: Architecture, systems and networks
  • Topic  7: Software development safety

2003 was a key date in the process, when Toulouse Capitole University joined the supervisory establishments, which enabled each of the two institutions to better identify the specific research work developed in information technology at Toulouse Capitole University. On this site, the IRIT is the laboratory which supports the training portfolio offered by the department of Information technology (UFR): it regroups 25 lecturers-researchers (from the CNU section 27)  working within 7 research teams.
