Incoming CIEL student

I'm a CIEL student selected by a CIEL partner university and I wish to do my CIEL exchange at UT1

WHEN CAN I COME?

At UT1 Capitole, the CIEL program is attached to the Master II International and Comparative Law (MADIC Parcours général). Any CIEL student from another partner university will integrate this diploma and follow the courses offered there.

Two Périods
At UT1, the academic year is divided in two period:
- Period 1: from mid-September until begining of January;
- Period 2: from begining of January until the begining of Septembre.

CIEL students from partner universities may integrate either one or both the Periods depending on the policy applied by their home university.


WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?

The program varies depending on the period the CIEL student comes.

Program during Period 1
If the CIEL student has the possibility to come during Period 1, s/he must attend the all the courses of the MADIC Parcours général (UE1 and UE2):
  • Principes généraux des droits européens et internationaux, 15h, 4 ECTS
  • Droit international public, 21h, 6 ECTS
  • Droit international privé, 21h, 6 ECTS
  • Droit pénal international, 15h, 4 ECTS
  • Grands systèmes de droit, 15h, 5 ECTS
  • Droit comparé de la famille, 15h, 5 ECTS
  • Private comparative contract law, 15h, 5 ECTS
  • Public comparative contract law, 15h, 5 ECTS
This list correspond to the program of the academic year 2016/2017 - it may be subject to some changes.

CIEL students are required to follow all the courses. The program is both in English and in French (courses with an English title are taught in English; courses with a French title are taught in French).

Every subject matter is the object of a single oral examination which shall take place after the course ends during the semester.


Program during Period 2
If the CIEL student has the possibility to come during Period 2, s/he must attend the all the courses of the MADIC Parcours général (UE3, UE4 and a specific UE5). Courses at the university are held from January until March. The 6 following months are normally dedicated to an internship or the master thesis for the UT1 students. As for the CIEL students, only the internship is offered and a specific research paper replace the master thesis.

CIEL students are required to follow the courses but have a choice between two set of courses:

Common and compulsary
  • Labour law, 15h, 4ECTS
  • International arbitration, 15h, 4 ECTS

Set of course no. 1 (Business and Economic law)
  • Competition law, 15h, 3 ECTS
  • Mergers and acquisitions, 15h, 3 ECTS
  • Intellectual property, 15h, 3 ECTS
  • Negociation and drafting of contract, 15h, 3 ECTS
or

Set of course no. 2 (Droit des personnes)
  • Droit du vivant, 15h, 3 ECTS
  • Protection internationale de la personne, 15h, 3 ECTS
  • Droits de l'Homme et droit européen de la personne, 15h, 3 ECTS
  • Vie privée et protection de la personne, 15h, 3 ECTS

Every subject matter is the object of a single oral examination which shall take place after the course ends during the semester.

From April on, CIEL students may decide to complete their exchange (which needs 30 ECTS) by one of the two following option:
  • Internship, 12 ECTS: students are required to do an internship of minimum 3 months. An internship report must be submitted by the end of August to UT1. The internship may take place either in France or any other country; or
  • Research work, 12 ECTS: students are required to write an essay on the set of course s/he followed until March. This essay shall be different from the master thesis required to validate the CIEL certificate. It is due by late August.

Program for an annual exchange
Some of the CIEL partner universities offer their students to do the exchange thourghout an entire year. In this case, the CIEL student may choose between any of the courses offered in the first or second period (in this case, students are responsible for schedule overlaps if any between the courses during the second period).
