Audrey Mompo stages figurines, soldiers in action, men in suit or ageless women in disproportionately empty and fuzzy settings.
All her characters are kind of hovering between two worlds: a world of expectancy and a world of action.
One may think they are wavering, in a narrow corridor or heading for a fall …… And yet, their behaviour also highlights their self-confidence, with a smirk on their face, a slightly contemptuous posture, their hands in their pockets…
The narrative is hardly touched upon: difficult to know whether the gist of it all has already vanished or is still to come. “I have not chosen everything, I have let it go, I have accepted to be manipulated. You can tell a story in so many ways”.
Space, settings and decors can either help or make us fall apart like a house of cards that falters; everything is just suspended, ephemeral, none of it actually/really exists.
Audrey Mompo is a photographer and visual artist; she is a graduate from the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse. She has been involved in photography and mediation activities for ten years. She is also an active member of the ManisfestO group and works for the Arsenal Photo Lab of UT1 Capitole University.
