Audrey Mompo stages figurines, soldiers in action, men in suit or ageless women in disproportionately empty and fuzzy settings.
All her characters are kind of hovering between two worlds: a world of expectancy and a world of action.
One may think they are wavering, in a narrow corridor or heading for a fall …… And yet, their behaviour also highlights their self-confidence, with a smirk on their face, a slightly contemptuous posture, their hands in their pockets…
The narrative is hardly touched upon: difficult to know whether the gist of it all has already vanished or is still to come. “I have not chosen everything, I have let it go, I have accepted to be manipulated. You can tell a story in so many ways”.
Space, settings and decors can either help or make us fall apart like a house of cards that falters; everything is just suspended, ephemeral, none of it actually/really exists.
