Capitole Buddy programme

The Capitole Buddy Programme is a mentoring scheme between students studying Law; Political Science, Public Administration and Communication; Computer Science; and at the Toulouse School of Management (TSM) – who have completed at least one year of study at UT Capitole – and international students (Erasmus, non-European exchange students and independent students).

The programme focuses in particular on welcoming international students to the university and providing mutual support with academic matters through informal monthly meetings between mentors and mentees.

For mentors, this programme entitles them to a bonus.
 

Mentors, this programme is a fantastic opportunity to develop your intercultural skills, add an international dimension to your CV, share your academic expertise (from the mentees’ perspective, you’re experts!) and your top tips for Toulouse, and cultivate your open-mindedness. Mentees, this programme gives you access to a student mentor on campus at UT Capitole, support in understanding the intricacies of the French university system, valuable advice on making the most of Toulouse, the chance to improve your French, and, perhaps, the opportunity to form a wonderful friendship.

Mentors

All students from L2 to M2 in Law and Political Science, Public Administration and Communication, Computer Science, and at the Toulouse School of Management (TSM).
 

Mentees

All international students (Erasmus, non-European exchange programmes, and independent students) who wish to receive support with their transition to UT Capitole.
 

Important to know

We ask all participants to uphold the following values:

  • To be attentive, empathetic and able to build a climate of trust
  • To respect others and cultural differences, and to refrain from any acts of harassment, discrimination or other forms of violence
  • To attend the events and workshops on offer regularly

The mentor undertakes to welcome and support their mentee on arrival and throughout the entire duration of the programme, depending on their availability and the mentee’s specific needs.

For example, they may:

  • take them on a tour of the campus
  • help their mentee find their way around the various facilities and departments
  • offer advice on enrolment and course selection
  • keep their mentee informed about events on campus


The mentor will not have the answer to every question, but will be the first point of contact for their mentee. The mentor may refer their mentee to other support staff for specific information, in particular to the International Relations Office.

As a mentor:

  • Allow for around 4 hours per month to support your mentee
  • Attend several events: a welcome drinks reception, a 2-hour interactive intercultural coaching workshop, and a closing event
  • Submit a brief ‘activity log’ (list the types of activities you have undertaken with your mentee; indicate whether you have attended any on-campus events together, etc.)
  • Complete a questionnaire to help us improve the Capitole Buddy Programme

All students have the option to commit for one or two semesters.
 

As a mentee:

  • Allow for around 4 hours of support from your mentor each month
  • Attend several events: a welcome drinks reception, two interactive 2-hour intercultural coaching workshops, and a closing event
  • Complete a questionnaire to help us improve the Capitole Buddy Programme
