Review of the 7th Expedition Week in Sofia!

from October 16, 2023 to October 20, 2023

The 7th and final Expedition Week of the year is drawing to a close! From 16 to 20 October, students from partner universities tested ideas and sought solutions in the field of Sustainable Development Goal 11: sustainable cities. Of the 5 UT Capitole students selected from the 40 or so applicants, one of them came back with the winning team cup!

"ENGAGE.EU Expedition Week is a challenge that I really enjoyed because it helped me get to know a new city, it helped me meet a lot of people from Europe, it helped me learn about other cultures and see how people with different cultures can come together and work together to make the world a better place to live in". *

A total of 30 students from 7 partner universities took part in this 7th Expedition Week.
The students were divided into 4 teams and worked under the guidance of mentors, lecturers and researchers from the Alliance:

  •     Christian Zhelev, from the Department of International Economic and Commercial Relations in Sofia
  •     Silvia Georgieva, from Sofia's Department of Entrepreneurship

The student teams worked on real cases set up by the National Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Activities of Sofia Municipality.

The challenges issued by the NAMRB covered the following topics: Ideal Model for a Hospitable City for Citizens - Ideal Model for a Hospitable City for Tourists - Ideal Model for a Hospitable City for Businesses
The Directorate of Sport and Youth Activities of Sofia Municipality prepared a case study on "Sofia - a Hospitable City for Sport".

The aim of the event was to enable young people to learn to think critically and creatively about the pressing issues facing urban areas and to explore how sustainable practices can be integrated into their design, planning and management.

"I took part in this challenge because I really believe that it is important to make cities a more welcoming place to live both socially and environmentally. The experience here was really exciting because I met a lot of new people and got to know a place I've never been before".
