from May 30, 2012 to June 30, 2012

Michel Le Breton, professor in economics and TSE researcher has been reappointed for a second five-year term of office as senior member of the Institut universitaire de France by the Minister of Higher Education and Research.

The mission of the Institut universitaire de France is to support the development of academic research of excellence and strengthen inter-disciplinarity.

The IUF is dedicated to attracting the most innovative researchers to higher education research in an increasingly global competition.

Why is the Institut universitaire de France so unique ?

  • All disciplines are to be represented at the IUF, which must keep a balance between scientific and medical disciplines on the one hand and humanities and human and social sciences on the other hand: in each annual promotion, at least 1/3 of the senior members and at least 2/5 of the junior members must belong to one of these disciplinary groups.
  • The IUF members, all lecturers-researchers continue teaching at their home university with a flexible schedule and they benefit from specific research appropriations.
  • The Institut universitaire de France’s ambition is to encourage young researchers whose exceptional talents are emerging into recognition: 60% of the members appointed each year are junior members under 40.
  •  Membership at the IUF covers a five-year term of office, that can eventually be renewed. There is no permanent membership.
  • In order to avoid inbreeding, IUF junior and senior members are selected by two different multidisciplinary panels, comprising a minimum of 40% international scientists
