« Equerre d’argent 2020 » awarded to the Toulouse School of Economics building

from November 24, 2020 to December 24, 2020

The TSE building has been awarded the "'Équerre d'argent" which is the highest architectural distinction in France.

For the first time since the creation of this Prize, a Toulouse building has been distinguished.

The twelve-member jury of the Moniteur and AMC architecture prizes met on November 23rd under the chairmanship of Marc Barani for its 38th edition.

They had to make a choice between the 25 shortlisted achievements before designating the prizewinners in each category as well as that of « The Equerre d’Argent » which rewards, equally, the architect and the owner of the best achievement of the year.

For Toulouse Capitole University, this new recognition, granted to the construction of the building dedicated to Toulouse School of Economics, is all the more meaningful since for this project the university was the first higher education institution acting as a prime contractor on a building project.

This building had already been in the limelight earlier this year, through its designers Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara (Grafton Architect) who were awarded the 2020 Pritzker Prize.

This new building is dedicated to the TSE research community and to the IAST activities, which address the development of an open and multidisciplinary economy for the common good.

Its construction is a first for two reasons :
  • For the first time ever in France, a university is the contracting authority for the construction of a building,
  • For the first time ever, a university building has been designed in close collaboration with researchers.

Contracting authority :
Université Toulouse 1 Capitole.
Architect : Grafton Architects/ Vigneu & Zilio Architectes.
