The Arsenal site
A lively student hub
As the main site of the Toulouse Capitole University, the Arsenal is a vibrant hub of student life, where different disciplines and ideas come together. Its central location, right in the heart of Toulouse, makes it a popular meeting place for the university community.
Originally, the Arsenal was a site dedicated to the manufacture and storage of weapons, bearing witness to Toulouse’s military past. Today, it embodies the transformation and adaptation of urban spaces for the purposes of education and research. Its architecture, combining robustness and elegance, is a reminder of its history.
With its bright spaces and generous proportions, the building offers a stimulating working environment. Students find an atmosphere conducive to concentration and creativity, whilst the cultural and scientific events held there reinforce its role as an intellectual hub.

A building redesigned to meet the needs of the university community
Once a military site, the Arsenal has successfully reinvented itself to become a central hub of university life, combining tradition and innovation. The building houses a range of facilities dedicated to teaching, research and student life:
- 9 lecture theatres, including the prestigious Despax lecture theatre, which can accommodate up to 700 people and serves as a venue for conferences, symposia and major events,
- numerous classrooms,
- spaces for educational innovation, dedicated to experimentation and active learning,
- computer rooms,
- the Arsenal University Library, an essential resource for research and study,
- a guidance and careers department, helping students throughout their studies and as they enter the job market,
- a cafeteria and a university restaurant, welcoming spaces where students and staff can meet up to chat and have a bite to eat.
A campus that engages with the city and society
The Arsenal is not limited to its academic role: it also opens its doors to the city of Toulouse by hosting cultural events, exhibitions and debates. It thus embodies UT Capitole’s commitment to being an integral part of the local community and actively contributing to the intellectual and social life of the city. The building houses two exhibition spaces: the Galerie Si and the Petit Hall, making culture accessible to all and turning the university into a place for reflection and encounters.
Outside, a magnificent cloister offers a haven of peace and tranquillity to the university community and the people of Toulouse. This exceptional setting makes it a unique place, where history engages with the present. This harmony between heritage and nature will soon be enhanced by the creation of a landscaped park, an ambitious project to transform the area surrounding the Arsenal building. This future green space, designed as an area for relaxation, socialising and biodiversity, will mark a new stage in the campus’s opening up to the city and its commitment to a sustainable and peaceful living environment.
