A look back at the second edition of the Vienna Summer School!
The ENGAGE.EU 2023 Summer School took place from 17 to 28 July 2023 at WU, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, with an online launch session on 7 June 2023. The theme of this summer school was ‘Transformation to Sustainability: challenges and solutions’.
What is the ENGAGE.EU Summer School?
The ENGAGE.EU Summer School is an intensive two-week summer programme for undergraduate students taught by professors and lecturers from ENGAGE.EU universities. In line with the overall objectives of ENGAGE.EU, the programme aims to provide a forum for interdisciplinary academic exchange and learning about current societal challenges. It aims to provide students with the tangible and intangible skills needed to meet these challenges and act as responsible future leaders. Students from all ENGAGE.EU partner universities have the opportunity to actively participate in this summer programme.
The 2023 edition
This year's programme looked at the transformation towards sustainability in Europe from a number of different angles, including business, law, economics, climate change, international relations and demographic change. For a fortnight, 43 students from nine partner universities attended lectures on these topics, while working in teams on solutions to specific sustainability challenges, such as the carbon asset bubble or the legal definition of sustainability. The proposals were presented to the lecturers on the final day of the programme.
To deepen their academic programme, participants have the opportunity to engage practically with the subject of the summer school by attending company visits and expert lectures given by guest speakers. The course programme and practical experiences are complemented by a mix of social, cultural and international events, including various opportunities to network with students from other countries and explore the host city and university.
