IRSI - International Research for Society Institute

Introduction to the IRSI - International Research for Society Institute

The establishment of the International Research for Society Institute at the Toulouse Capitole University aims to support the development of interdisciplinary, inter-scientific and international (3i) projects, focusing on research in the humanities and social sciences, languages and computer science.

Assâad El Akremi, Professor of Management Sciences and Co-Director of the IRSI, explains: “The IRSI’s mission is to foster synergy between researchers from different disciplines, as well as to facilitate links between our researchers and local, regional, national, European and international partners, with a view to conducting research that has an impact on society.” IRSI supports the inception and development of projects, drawing on the experience of academic staff and stakeholders from the socio-economic sector.
“The IRSI must encourage innovation in relation to major societal challenges such as energy and sustainable transitions, health and well-being, societal change, inclusion and social justice, AI and digital technology, as well as issues of governance, security and public policy,” explains Jessica Eynard, senior lecturer in law and co-director of the IRSI.

The IRSI’s activities include identifying, selecting and providing financial support for innovative projects, through the awarding of quality labels and the allocation of seed funding. The institute will encourage the emergence of new projects through workshops and collaborative networks in partnership with the UT’s DSPEG cluster and ENGAGE.EU, and will be able to host visiting lecturers. It will also help to raise awareness of and foster an understanding of other areas of research. Lucie Sourzat, a senior lecturer in law, will coordinate a series of prestigious lectures on societal issues, open to the general public.

The IRSI forms part of the University’s current environment, providing support to the research laboratories. It will help to enhance the EPE’s appeal at local, national and international levels.

Call for proposals (restricted access)

This call for proposals aims to support projects in the planning and design phase that are intended to develop into large-scale initiatives. It is designed as a springboard to help bring ideas to fruition at an early stage. It is therefore aimed at the initiators of innovative and ambitious projects who require early-stage support to explore, structure and define their theoretical and methodological approach.

The aim of this call is to enable these projects to establish a solid foundation before seeking funding or participating in more structured national or European calls for proposals. By supporting these early stages of development, the IRSI aims to foster the emergence of high-potential initiatives capable of addressing current challenges and achieving significant growth.
