Toulouse Capitole University partners the second edition of the NewSpace Conference
Toulouse Capitole University, through its Sirius Chair, is a member of a group of major players in the French space ecosystem. It was the only university among the 17 co-organizers of the second edition of the Assises du NewSpace 2023, held from July 5 to 6 at Station F in Paris.
New Space : what's it all about?
In practice, this means the privatization of access to space, and the arrival in the space economy of new, emerging business models, advocating agility, innovation and greater risk-taking (both technological and economic).
This is how young private companies are trying to make their mark in the highly competitive field of space. While the New Space movement has developed in the United States, Europe is now trying to regain ground, and France is one of the most advanced countries.
This strategic, high-impact sector, now more accessible, is opening up a considerable number of opportunities, and French space players must face up to rapidly changing challenges if they are to stay in the international race.
The Assises of new space
"Founded on innovation, our world is experiencing a prodigious acceleration in space history. And a new chapter is opening up. The future and standing of the French space industry depend on our ability to seize this opportunity and build a strong new space economy over the next 5 years in a globalized context. Under the direction of a prestigious collective representing what could be called France's space team, Les Assises du NewSpace is destined to become the major annual gathering where this future will be thought out and built."
The event brought together more than 44 companies, including spacetech and digital startups, manufacturers, service companies, investors and government representatives, for discussions and debates. These players and end-customers from the space, digital and innovation ecosystems took an in-depth look at current and future New Space issues, through round tables, workshops and presentations on key topics such as financing, public procurement, partnerships, research and training.
IDETCOM's "Space(s)" axis and the SIRIUS Chair
Sirius is a corporate chair, founded on an original public-private partnership between three major operators in the global space sector (CNES, Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space) and two renowned higher education establishments: Toulouse Capitole University and Toulouse Business School.
M. Lucien Rapp, scientific director of Sirius and professor at UT Capitole, talked about the space data market and the project to set up a National Space Council.
Among the event's many discussions and debates, he also led round-table discussions with leading speakers, including the main national and European network heads.
