Unknown label

Over 200 people attended the opening ceremony of the Jean Monnet Centre for Excellence of Toulouse 1 Capitole University on the 10th May 2013, during the European festival. The patron of the ceremony, Vassilios Skouris, President of the European Union Court of Justice, delivered a speech on some "aspects of the protection of fundamental rights within the European Union in the post- Lisbon treaty context".

The European Commission has thus acknowledged the high quality of the training and research work carried out in the field of European law at UT1 Capitole. The opening ceremony did reflect the awarded distinction with the visit of President of the European Union Court of Justice, Vassilios Skouris, ex- Greek Home Secretary, who gave a lecture on  « Some aspects of the protection of fundamental rights within the European Union in the post-Lisbon treaty context». Only ten centres in Europe, among which two in France (Toulouse and Nice), were awarded that precious key to success in 2012.

This centre for excellence label will bring supplementary funding – about 75 000 € – that will contribute to new developments and reinforce the teaching and research teams already at work at UT1 Capitole in the field of European integration.

The same label regroups the two major areas of research within IRDEIC (Research Institute in comparative international and European law) : European integration  (with a European law focus), and European cooperation between States. The researchers who benefit from this label enjoy excellence and extra-funding.

Toulouse 1 Capitole University has an ad personam Jean-Monnet Chair, held by Marc Blanquet, a recognition of the value of the teaching delivered in the field of European integration at Toulouse university. The Jean-Monnet initiative also means further support for scientific cooperation in the field of European integration, or for training modules.

The awarding of the « Jean-Monnet  Centre for excellence » label recognizes the value of the teaching and research work carried out on European issues at UT1 Capitole. It also enhances the international visibility of our university.
