Opening of a solidarity grocery store at UT Capitole

on the February 18, 2022

A social solidarity grocery store opens on campus, for Toulouse students in very precarious situations : Epicerie UT1 ESOPE.

Since the beginning of the health crisis, student insecurity has increased.

Strongly committed to its students, University of Toulouse Capitole is opening a social solidarity grocery store UT1 ESOPE on its campus. It is dedicated to students in very precarious situations.

  • An accessible location
The grocery store is located in the heart of Toulouse, on the Anciennes facultés campus (near the Crous cafeteria). It is intended for students in great difficulty at Toulouse Capitole University, as well as at other higher education institutions.
  • A proactive approach
It does not consist in distributing packages. The students remain active in their comsumption. They choose their products, advised by the grocery store staff. They pay for their purchases at a very preferential rate: 10 to 30% of the usual market value (a cart worth 70€ will cost about 8€).
  • Quality products
The foodstuffs and hygiene products offered in the shelves come from the agricultural and agri-food sectors and from large-scale distribution (overstocks, labelling problems, etc.)
How do you shop there?

It is possible to buy groceries during a semester or even an academic year. Students in difficulty must submit an application online at www.ut1-esope.fr. They will receive an answer within 48 hours after submitting their application. This grocery store is intended to provide a rapid response to emergency situations.

Partners :
The UT1 ESOPE grocery store was created at the Toulouse Capitole University thanks to the collaboration of the Food Bank of Toulouse and its region, as well as the mobilization of the Prefecture of Occitania, within the framework of the fight against precariousness and poverty, with the support of the City of Toulouse, the Department of Haute-Garonne and the Occitania Region.
