on the November 18, 2025
The traditional "Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities" was published on Tuesday, 18 November 2025. In the "Economics" category, Toulouse Capitole University climbed to 15th place worldwide, thanks to its component institution Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), gaining one place compared to last year.
This new international recognition is testament to the excellence of the research and training provided by the Toulouse Capitole University, experimental public institution. It confirms the transformation process undertaken by the university and TSE to attract the best students and researchers, both French and international, to Toulouse. For the record, on 1 January 2023, Toulouse Capitole University became an experimental public institution (EPE). At the same time, TSE became a Grand Établissement (GE).
This is the result of a policy of excellence that is embraced, shared and promoted throughout the institution. It is also further proof of the determination and ability of EPE Toulouse Capitole University to become a Grand Établissement.
Hugues Kenfack, President of Toulouse Capitole University
For nearly 15 years, Toulouse Capitole University has consistently ranked among the top universities in the Shanghai Ranking for economics. This recognition is based on the academic and scientific excellence of its school of economics, Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), supported by the Jean-Jacques Laffont Foundation, and is the result of intensive research activities carried out in our laboratories, which benefit from a permanent policy of incentives and promotion.

My colleagues are conducting ambitious, high-risk research projects that will contribute to our collective future prosperity while providing us with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle chronic problems such as poverty. I am very proud to see their outstanding contribution to the creation of new knowledge recognised in this way. They truly deserve it.
Victoria Barham, Director of TSE
