To explore these opportunities at your leisure and find out more, head to the Grand Hall at the Arsenal, where a poster exhibition awaits you!

The first European Doctoral Day at UT Capitole

On 13 May 2026, Toulouse Capitole University is organising European Doctoral Day, as part of a Europe-wide initiative to promote doctoral studies and the skills of young researchers.

Focusing on internationalisation, interdisciplinarity and impact, this event highlights the role of the PhD in research and society, as well as the career opportunities it offers, including those outside the academic world.

Brexit and the rule of law are on the agenda for the upcoming ESL workshops

The next workshops organised by the European School of Law (ESL) will take place on 28 May 2026. As part of this, a conference entitled “Brexit, 10 Years On” will be offered to students and the wider academic community from 9am. The aim will be to understand the challenges of Brexit and its consequences ten years on at EU level, drawing on real-life examples. Then, in the afternoon, a competition will be held. Ms Sylvaine Poillot Perruzzetto, founder of the European School of Law and judge at the Court of Cassation, will invite students to present their vision of the rule of law and its links with art. The prize: a trip to Paris to present their project at the European Law Institute (ELI).

Italy in the spotlight

This year, the University of Toulouse Capitole has placed a special focus on Italy through a number of notable initiatives. In particular, the European School of Law Toulouse (ESL) has established a new partnership with the University of Sassari in Sardinia to create a Franco-Italian dual degree in law. The Toulouse School of Management (TSM), part of UT Capitole, has also launched two new dual degrees in management with Italian universities: in Rome, with Tor Vergata, and in Venice, with the Venice School of Management.

Furthermore, in 2026, we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, a symbolic milestone that has inspired numerous projects. Giovanna Montermini, academic coordinator of the dual degree programme with the University of Sassari, has notably organised an Italian film club at the Language Resource Centre (CRL) and supported our students in producing the second season of a series of podcasts in Italian, with new episodes released every Wednesday.

These initiatives demonstrate our institution’s commitment to promoting Italian culture and academia.

European mobility is booming

At Toulouse Capitole University, European student mobility is on the rise, with more than 482 outgoing mobility placements (completed, planned or currently underway) in the 2025–2026 academic year under the Erasmus+ programme, including:
  • 15 administrative staff,
  • 424 students (bachelor's degree, master's degree and PhD, across all time periods),
  • 15 lecturers and researchers,
  • 28 students on work placements.
All these figures are up on the 2024–2025 academic year, when 384 outgoing mobility placements within Europe were recorded under the Erasmus+ programme (all statuses combined).

Through the ENGAGE.EU alliance, of which UT Capitole is a member, the range of student mobility opportunities is becoming increasingly diverse, with the introduction of short-term and virtual formats. International experience is now more accessible, and efforts to promote inclusion have been stepped up. UT Capitole students have thus had access to over 500 international courses, placements or workshops, and the number of student mobility placements has increased by 25% at the institution.

A sharp rise in the number of responses to calls for European projects

UT Capitole has doubled its success rate in European calls for training projects this year, including four Erasmus Mundus projects:

This is the first time our university has been involved in a capacity-building project and a cooperation partnership. For more information on European projects, please contact the International Office at screi@ut-capitole.fr.

ENGAGE.EU: a long-term presence at UT Capitole

The ENGAGE.EU alliance has reached a new milestone in its development by welcoming its tenth partner, the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, which joined the network as an associate partner at the annual conference organised by UT Capitole in October 2025. This new membership reflects the ongoing strengthening of European academic cooperation in the pursuit of social responsibility and the training of leaders committed to sustainable development.

At the same time, this year, UT Capitole’s ENGAGE.EU unit has evolved into a fully-fledged department. This development marks a key milestone in firmly establishing the alliance within the institution and confirms the university’s commitment to taking a long-term approach to fostering the growth and influence of this European cooperation.

Innovative training programmes to expand internationally

In addition to its Erasmus+ mobility programmes and international double degrees, UT Capitole is expanding its range of courses to include short, innovative programmes, thereby enhancing its students’ international outlook. These include:
  • Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL): this type of online learning enables students to gain an international experience without the need for physical travel. For example, five COILs have already been set up as part of ENGAGE.EU: ‘Risk and opportunities of AI’, ‘Navigating sustainability’, ‘Future of Work’, ‘Bridging Borders’ and ‘Greenwashing: Identify, Fight, and Transform (GIFT)’. Furthermore, the 2026 ‘ENGAGE.EU Academic Initiative Incubator’ call for proposals has funded three new projects, led by lecturers and researchers from UT Capitole and the alliance’s partner universities: ‘CICLLE’, dedicated to comparative labour law in Europe; ‘Introduction to Ecological and Social Transition’, focusing on sustainability issues; and ‘Languages and Ecological Navigation for Sustainability (NEXT)’.

  • Summer Schools: these cover a range of topics, from new management techniques to empirical legal research, and bring together students and/or lecturers from partner higher education institutions, such as KU Leuven (Belgium), Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands) and the University of Belgrade (Serbia). Fully funded by the Erasmus+ programme, two ENGAGE.EU summer schools are organised in July by our Italian partner in Rome (Luiss) and our Spanish partner in Barcelona (Universitat Ramon Llull). The aim of these programmes is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and interdisciplinary perspectives needed to devise, design and implement sustainable solutions tailored to Europe’s specific environmental, social and economic contexts. Another example is the TSM Summer University, a short two-week programme designed to introduce students to management in the fields of aeronautics, aerospace and cutting-edge technologies.

  • Study Tours: a unique international exchange experience for students with ‘fewer opportunities’. Since 2024, five Study Tours have been organised. For example, an ENGAGE.EU Study Tour was organised by Toulouse Capitole University from 25 to 27 June 2025, focusing on corporate social responsibility. Over three days, around thirty students from across Europe were able to discover the Toulouse campus and its ecosystem, and explore together the challenges of corporate social responsibility. The next Study Tour will take place in June 2026, organised by the Bulgarian university UNWE in Sofia.

  • Joint programmes: from autumn 2026, UT Capitole will offer students on the M2 AES Corporate Governance programme the opportunity to specialise in sustainable development through the ENGAGE.EU joint programme in Global Sustainability Management (GSM). This one-year programme (60 ECTS) combines sustainable development, leadership and international cooperation, and includes a semester-long exchange at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria). Upon completion, students will receive, in addition to their Master’s degree from UT Capitole, a certificate in Global Sustainability Management.

Research projects funded by the European Commission

Toulouse Capitole University is also involved in several research projects funded by the European Commission:
  • 10 researchers from TSE and one researcher from IRIT are currently funded by the European Research Council. The ERC funds exploratory research projects at the frontiers of knowledge across all fields of science and technology, with excellence as the selection criterion. Among the projects that have recently received an ERC grant is the ADDI (Advancing Digital Democratic Innovation) project, which aims to improve democratic practices and is led by Umberto Grandi, a professor of computer science and member of IRIT
  • 2 female lecturers and researchers currently hold a Jean Monnet Chair. This chair aims to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European studies, including European law.
    > Nathalie De Grove Valdeyron, Professor of Public Law and researcher at the Research Institute in European, International and Comparative Law (IRDEIC). The ‘European Digital Health Law’ (EDIHL) Chair focuses on current issues relating to the development of digital technology in healthcare at European level and its implications for national law, from a legal, ethical and societal perspective.
Eugénie Fabriès-Lecea, Senior Lecturer in Private Law and Criminal Sciences and researcher at the Centre for Business Law (CDA). The Chair in “European Insolvency Law: Europe’s Challenges” (EURINS) aims to promote current European integration policies in insolvency law, both in terms of initial and continuing education (strengthening existing courses and creating new ones) and research conducted within the university.
Toulouse Capitole University’s involvement in ENGAGE.EU also contributes to the internationalisation of research networks. For example, multidisciplinary research visits bringing together researchers from the 10 partner universities are organised, such as the upcoming ENGAGE.EU Think Tank, which will take place at our institution from 9 to 12 June 2026, on the theme of “Responsible AI and Society”.

The new “ENGAGE.EU Label” research call for proposals is currently open to the University’s academic staff until 18 June, offering funding of up to €8,500 to develop their research projects.
