Abstract:
In this talk, I will introduce a new formalization of Hohfeld’s theory of legal rights, a widely recognized analytical framework used to examine complex normative relations between agents. This new formalization distinctively represents the norm-changing nature of legal competences. The logic is completely axiomatizable and offers a sophisticated reduction of legal competences to static rights. Crucially, it effectively distinguishes between legal ability and legal permissibility, a key aspect in the analysis of the abuse of legal power.
